Managing a full academic and extracurricular schedule

For most teenagers, balancing extracurriculars and schoolwork often causes extreme amounts of stress; however, freshman Tatiana Zinn has shown great success in her ambitious weekly schedule. Not only is Tatiana an incredible student, but an incredible leader as well.

“I signed up for around 34 clubs, but not all of them emailed me back since they are student lead,” Zinn said. Some students have been too busy to run their own clubs, but I still take an active role in around 12 of the ones I signed up for.
Youth and Government, UNICEF, The Asian Student Association, The Jewish Alliance, Science Olympics- those are just a few of the clubs Zinn is involved with.

“I spend about 5-15 hours a week devoting time to the clubs I’m apart of,” Zinn said.
Every other Sunday, Tatiana goes to a Buddhist Monastery along with other members of the Asian Student Association to tutor  Burmese refugees in reading and writing. Her role as Vice President  in the Asian Student Association shows her great leadership qualities. The club strives to encourage and support diversity by uniting people who share an interest in learning about the Asian culture. Although Zinn is not of Asian descent, she is eager to support and respect the culture through this association. In addition, Zinn attended a Model UN competition in Austin, TX, the weekend of January 27th for her Youth and Government club.

Furthermore, Tatiana is apart of the Talented and Gifted program and takes all TAG Pre-AP Classes, except for math. However, she is enrolled in Algebra 2, so she is already ahead of her peers.

“After my clubs and volunteer work, I go straight home to begin my homework,” Zinn said. I don’t have time for much else.
Since her weekdays are fully scheduled, she saves time for ice skating or her other fitness classes for the weekends.

“I could spend around an hour to an hour and a half devoted to homework, not including studying,” Zinn said.

This may not sound too intense, but that is solely due to her vigorous productivity during the day. Zinn goes everyday to the library during her lunch period to do homework, and saves her average 3-4 hours of studying for nighttime. Tatiana claims that a good day would only be two hours of work at home every night. With a current GPA of a 4.3, there is no doubt that Tatiana has a bright future ahead.
