Second Semester Saves the Grades

Sometimes students don’t do so hot on their first semesters, but the spring semester can be a

second chance for grades that are much needed.

After the long winter break, students set their New Year’s resolutions towards school

work. All of us come back to school ready to work and boost our GPAs. “The first six weeks of

high school was the hardest,” freshman Quincy Hammer said. “I wasn’t as prepared as I could

have been for the amount of homework we were going to receive. Throughout the whole fall

semester I struggled with time efficiency and dealing with lacrosse, I was up really late every

night. This semester has been a lot easier, and I’m more adjusted and used to how high school

works. Learning how to study is a pretty hard skill to get the hang of. Everyone has their own

methods that work for different people.”

world of studying. Freshmen become a lot more aware of the busy high school lifestyle second

semester and learn how to manage a full plate filled with activities, school work and little down

time.

Upperclassmen crack down on schoolwork as they start to get anxious for college

applications. “This spring semester went a lot more smoothly than the first. Junior year is the

most challenging year academically at the school,” junior Samantha Walker said. “There are

crazy amounts of homework, studying and late nights that were stressful. This semester I have

studying methods and tricks that I use that work out great for me and decreases the amount of

work I have to do while also getting good grades. With early morning practices and late nights

keeping a high grade point average is extremely difficult. Your schedule can get pretty chaotic

because of the new adult responsibilities you have.”

Finding the happy medium between work and play between can be hard. With a new

semester ahead of us everyone has a second chance.
