Senior Ad Season

Senior+Ad+Season

Spring is right around the corner and either known or completely unknown by rising senior parents, it’s already time to get started on their junior child’s senior ads.  Each year a series of flustered and panicked parents rush around in fear that they’ll miss the deadlines and the opportunity to include their child in the senior ad section, while other parents laid back and unconcerned wait till the last minute. Either way things work out on the yearbook staff and most people are pleased with the ad they see over a year later. But it’s not hard to make this process a little less stressful for those already wound up and the ads managers who have to problem solve when masses come in on the last day to create their ads.

The first step to smooth sailing is attending one of the two ads information meetings on February 16th and 18th.

“Last year was my first year on ads, and until now I hadn’t realized how important it is for a parent come to the meeting. When a parent comes into an ads meeting prepared with pictures, what they want it to say and the size they want already picked out the planning process rolls smoothly and happens quickly,” junior Kate Watts said.

The information meetings barely last a full hour and give parents the basics. The more parents know going into the ads process, the easier it will be. At the meeting parents are given price estimates, taught the block system and have the opportunity to get on the calendar for a 15 minute meeting to create their child’s ad one day in the spring. Although parents can wait until the fall to make the ad, there are no guarantees of open space or perks that come with spring ads. In the spring, the ads are cheaper, the meetings are scheduled, the managers cater to the parent’s time and are willing to come in before and after school for parents unable to take off work. Unknown to most parents, it is overall way easier for the ads managers to complete the majority of their ads in the summer rather than having to make them during the school year on top of finishing other course work.

“It’s much easier getting the bulk of my ads done in the summer. I’m able to dedicate more time to the ads and pay more attention to what the parents specifically ask for. Having set meetings with parents allows both parties to be prepared and know where they are suppose to be and what time they are suppose to be there. Not to mention, the ads are significantly cheaper when completed in the spring,” senior Caleigh Young said.
