Lads and Lassies travel to New York City to perform and tour.

Over the four-day weekend, the Lads and Lassies took a hiatus from “bubble” life and traveled to the city that never sleeps. The group went to perform a concert at St. Patrick’s

Cathedral, and in the meantime, toured the city.

“We went to Times Square, treked around the city, took a ton of pictures, ate on a dinner cruise, and saw two musicals,” senior Keaton Calhoun said. “My favorite part of the trip was visiting The Met because I love art and history.”

The group of 44 were asked to perform by the St. Patrick’s Cathedral in their Guest Choir Concert Series which features “top-level high school, college, church, cathedral and professional choirs,” so they weren’t competing but simply performing for other visitors and residents of the city.

“They just asked our choir director and asked us if we wanted to perform,” Calhoun said.

Although the group was in New York for five days, they were not able to do absolutely everything the city offers to tourists.

“We did a lot of really cool things and visited a ton of parks and places, but I wish we could have gone to the Museum of Modern Art because it has a lot neat sculptures and paintings,” Calhoun said. “I also wish that I could have eaten a croissant donut, or a cronut, because they actually originated in New York, but I couldn’t find any.”

One might believe that traveling in a group as large as the Lads and Lassies to a giant city would be stressful, especially if the anyone got separated. Fortunately, the group was able to navigate the city without any problems and enjoy their time together. They are very thankful to their director, Natalie Walker, for giving them this opportunity and being a responsible chaperone on the trip.

“Traveling with the choir was great because I was able to hang out with my friends while also making new ones and growing closer to others,” Calhoun said.
