HP Scots vs. Richardson Eagles Football Game

The Scots played their last regular season game of the year Friday against the Richardson Eagles. The Eagles, who had struggled all season, were expected to put up very little resistance against the Scots’ high powered offense and formidable defense, but they didn’t get the memo. They managed to score four touchdowns and a field goal- an impressive feat for a team that was supposedly the worst in the district playing against the district champions. The Scots’ offense put up 44 points, but three uncharacteristic turnovers hurt them. Thankfully their defense front was near perfect, completely shutting down the Eagle’s running game and forcing them to go to the air. This lead to outlandish situations such as 4th and 31 on the Eagle’s first possession of the game. Highland Park’s seniors contributed heavily, especially on the offensive side of the ball. All five of the Scots’ offensive touchdowns were scored by seniors. Running back, Stephen Dieb ran for three and receivers Chris Buell and Jeffrey Kupp each caught a touchdown pass. Linebacker, John House was the only junior to score a Highland Park touchdown as he returned an interception all the way for a touchdown midway through the 4th quarter. Senior, Andrew Petrucelli also had an interception that lead to a Highland Park touchdown on the resulting drive. The final score was 44-30, Scots.

After the game, the Scots were presented with a trophy to commemorate their first 6A district championship ever. They took pictures with the trophy as one of the cheerleaders blared rapper DJ Khalid’s “All I Do is Win” through a cylindrical speaker that she cradled. “District champs!”, screamed center Jack Sides (12). Your Highland Park Scots- 2015 6A District 10 champions.
