Volleyball Game: HP vs Mesquite

The district undefeated Lady Scots varsity volleyball team hosted the Mesquite Horn Lady Jaguars on Friday. The Lady Jags caught the Scots off guard early in the first set, actually leading at several points. Highland Park then proceeded to run up an 18-6 lead before taking the set 25-9. Elizabeth Gilley, Jordan Westendorff, and Greer Gordon each contributed three of those 25 points. The second set continued in the same way they first had, with the Lady Scots’ largest lead being 15 points with four players scoring two or more, including five scores from Peyton Eisnaugle and four more from Westendorff. Highland Park took the second set with ease, 25-12. Mesquite Horn wasn’t ready to go away yet however. The Lady Jags made an impressive run, matching the Scotties point for point until the 10 point mark was reached and Highland Park sped ahead, creating multiple eight point leads and eventually taking the third and winning set 25-16 off of a kill from Eisnaugle assisted by Madeline Ngo. While Eisnaugle and Westendorff continued to be dominant scorers, perhaps the most impressive stat of the third set was Landry Ray’s nine assists to four different players- a testament to the teamwork that makes the Lady Scots so good at what they do: winning.
