In the morning of a beautiful sunny day at Glencoe Park Captain of the Ultimate Frisbee team, Senior Conner Cheves, walks onto the blanket like grass with his Frisbee in hand ready for what will be a great day for Ultimate Frisbee. Connor prepares himself for a day of hard work.

On September 19th Coach Darius and Coach Freddy held Ultimate Frisbee tryouts. “The tryouts were very well attended with a total of twenty-five students, mostly Sophomores, and with the great athletes that tried out if we can just coach them up then I think we will get far on the road to winning the State Championship,” Senior Connor Cheves explained. “Our biggest rival is JJ Pearce, but then also Coppell because we lost to them in the state Championship,” Senior Connor Cheves said. Even though Ultimate Frisbee isn’t the most popular sport at Highland Park High School (HPHS) it is one of the second fastest growing sports right now. The sport could grow enough to where it is a popular sport here at HPHS. Senior Connor Cheves shared that Ultimate Frisbee is a fun sport to play because “of the atmosphere of the sport, throwing the Frisbee, and having a great time while getting to play Ultimate Frisbee is what makes it so much fun.” Ultimate Frisbee is a lot like football there are two end zones and when you get into the end zone you get a point. A big difference though is when you catch the disc you are not aloud to run. You must stop and throw the disc to advance up the field. If your team drops the disc or the other team catches it then it is a turnover and the other team tries to score. Ultimate Frisbee is considered a non-contact sport, but when two or more players jump up for the disc there is going to be some contact made.

The bar is set high for this year’s team because in the 2014 spring season The Highland Park (HP) Ultimate Frisbee team lost in overtime and in the spring season of 2015 The HP Ultimate Frisbee team got third place. Will the Scots Ultimate Frisbee team be prepared for the spring season when it rolls around? Make sure to attend the games to be in the excitement.
