As Pre-Season comes to a close, the Scots get ready to face district play

Kicking off District

Finishing pre-season 2-1, the Scots prepare to face their competition in district. Winning their first game of the season by defeating the Centennial Titans 28-26, they lost the second game to Pulaski Academy with a devastating score of 40-30. Thankfully, the Scots pulled out a win at the AT&T Stadium against Prosper with a final score of 35-28.

After a close game against North Mesquite, the Scots prepared to take down the Pearce Mustangs.

“That game helped us because Pearce is supposed to have a good offense and so it was helpful to see an offense like North Mesquite’s,” junior Jack Toohey said. “Our morale was boosted after that game because North Mesquite is a very good team.”

Although they are preparing for Friday’s game, the Scots are expecting a tough game from Mesquite Horn. “They are our rival because they are a strong team and we lost to them last year,” Yeager said. If the boys are able to pull out a win against Horn, they will be one step closer to their goal of becoming district champions and securing their spot in the playoffs.

After their loss to Pulaski, the team was able to move forward using that game as motivation. “The loss to Pulaski showed us that we need to work harder and grow closer as a team,” Yeager said. “We watched lots of film and practiced everything we did poorly in the game so that we will be stronger for our upcoming opponents.”  In doing so the Yeager has distinguished some of the teams strengths and weaknesses going into district. “A strength would be that we know how to work together and overcome adversity, and a weakness would be overcoming injury because we have lost a lot of people to injuries.”

To make sure that performance is top notch during the games, the athletes have some strategies to be at their best. “Before the game, I make sure to eat a good meal and relax because I know we have prepared hard all week so that we can play hard and show everything that we have practiced,” Yeager said. One thing that helps boost performance is the fans. “When the student section gets really into the game and cheers when big things happen, it gets me excited and makes me want to play even harder,” Yeager said.

As the team continues to fight through their triumphs and adversity, the people keeping them together are the captains. “The captains understand the team goals and are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure that the team achieves those goals,” Yeager said.

Facing the teams in district will not be an easy task, but a do-able one. Just like the slogan states, the team is willing to do anything to achieve their goals and be “Worth Their Weight.”
