The Loss of a Century

In 1998 The Highland Park Scots started a home-game winning streak. For seventeen years they hadn’t lost a single home game but that changed on September 4, when they lost the first home game of the season to Pulaski Academy.  The students were excited for the first game by making a lot of noise and showing their school spirit. However after those first few Pulaski Academy touchdowns, no one was getting very hyped and everything started to go downhill. The playing and spirit was very weak at the game.

“Going into the game I thought that we were going to win but it’s football you never know what’s going to happen, I believe now the football players will try even harder to redeem themselves this season,” freshman Nicholas Morris said.

From the beginning of the game the players knew they were already starting to have problems.

“We didn’t come out aggressive and we were very sloppy in all aspects of the game. We were inexperienced, and it showed,” senior Jack Sides said.

Stopping defense was a hard job for the players and they were having a lot of trouble with it.

“We didn’t get stops on defense and our offense wasn’t clicking,” junior Bennet Brock said.

Maybe the loss could even be helpful.

“We won’t be so stressed every home game now that we can play at ease,” Sides said.

After the loss of this game the Scots went on to winning two games. One game against Prosper and another against North Mesquite. We have already started to rebuild our streak with a home game win against North Mesquite.

“We are not worried about the record anymore, and it’s a new start for the Scots. Losing helps us excel and now we push and get pushed even harder at practices and games knowing that we now need to win,” junior Michael Clark said.

Hopefully the Scots will defeat J.J. Pierce and continue on to the playoffs with more wins.
